Additional CNC Turning Guidelines

While small features can be accommodated, the diameter in any area should not drop below 0.035 inches (0.89mm).
Sharp conical points are acceptable, provided angles exceed 30". Wals thinner than 0.020 inches (0.5mm) generally do not withstand the machining process.

Surface Finish Options for Turned Parts

Turned parts generally feature a very smooth surface finish. The as-machined finish of cylindrical areas is typically smoother when produced on a lathe compared to a mill, so keep this in mind when choosing the machining method for parts that can be processed by either. Areas machined with live tooling, such as flats and slots, may show visible tool marks.

If prefered, metal parts can be lightly bead blasted to achieve a fine matte finish. For hard metals like steel and stainless steel, edges can be deburred with a light bead blast to remove metal slivers and smooth sharp or rough areas.

Understanding CNC Turning

CNC turning involves removing material from a rotating metal rod using a cutting tool to produce finished components. Our CNC lathes are capable of live tooling, enabling the machining of flat features and holes in the workpiece. We also offer threading for both the outside diameter (OD) and inside diameter(lD).

The resulting turned parts can retain the as-machined finish, showing tool marks, or they can be bead blasted. Upon completion, parts are inspected packaged,and swiftly shipped.
